Words like natural, clean, and eco-friendly appear on countless beauty products — but they carry no standardised legal definition in most markets. At Lunor, we believe you deserve clarity, not buzzwords. This article explains exactly what we mean when we talk about our formulations, and how to read the label on every Lunor product.

What Lunor Means by "Natural"

When we describe a product as natural, we mean that the active and functional ingredients are derived from plant, mineral, or other natural origins — not synthesised from petrochemicals. Our formulations prioritise:

  • Plant-derived actives — botanical extracts, cold-pressed oils, and plant-based emollients chosen for their documented skin and hair benefits.
  • Minimal processing — we favour ingredients processed at low temperatures or via cold extraction to preserve bioactive compounds wherever possible.
  • No unnecessary additives — we do not add synthetic fragrances, parabens, SLS/SLES, mineral oils, or artificial colourants to our formulas.

A small number of ingredients in some formulas are nature-identical or synthetic. These are included only when a safe, effective, and stable natural alternative does not exist — for example, certain preservation systems required by EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 to ensure product safety over shelf life.

How to Read a Lunor Ingredient Label

EU law requires all cosmetics sold in Europe to list ingredients using INCI names (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) in descending order of concentration — meaning the ingredient present in the largest amount is listed first.

Here is how to navigate the list:

  1. First five ingredients — these make up the majority of the formula (often 80–95%). Look for water (Aqua), carrier oils, or base emollients here.
  2. Middle section — functional actives such as botanical extracts, vitamins (e.g. Tocopherol = Vitamin E), or conditioning agents. Concentrations are typically 0.5–5%.
  3. Last few ingredients — preservatives, fragrances, and colourants appear at the end, usually below 1% individually. EU law requires fragrance components that may cause sensitisation to be declared individually if above 0.01% in leave-on products.

Tip: Latin-sounding names are not a sign of synthetic origin. Butyrospermum Parkii is shea butter. Cocos Nucifera is coconut oil. Rosa Canina is rosehip.

Claims Lunor Makes — and Claims We Don't

Claims we stand behind

  • Our formulations are free from parabens, SLS/SLES, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, and artificial colourants.
  • We use plant-derived ingredients as the primary functional components across all product lines.
  • Our packaging uses recyclable materials where technically and commercially feasible.
  • All products are compliant with EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, including mandatory safety assessments and a Product Information File (PIF) for each SKU.

Claims we do not make

  • We do not claim our products treat, cure, or prevent any skin condition or disease — that would make them medicinal products, subject to a different regulatory framework entirely.
  • We do not claim 100% natural formulations unless a specific product is verified to that standard.
  • We do not claim organic certification unless a product carries a valid, current third-party certification displayed on its label.

Our Product Lines

Our ingredient philosophy runs consistently across every category:

  • Face Care — gentle, plant-active formulas designed for daily use on all skin types.
  • Body Care — nourishing butters, oils, and lotions with a focus on skin barrier support.
  • Hair & Scalp — sulphate-free cleansing and conditioning with botanical strengthening actives.
  • Baby Care — minimal-ingredient, hypoallergenic formulas suitable for sensitive infant skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lunor certified organic?

Some products in our range carry third-party organic certification; where they do, this is stated clearly on the product label and product page. Products without a certification mark are not certified organic, even if they contain organic-origin ingredients.

Are Lunor products vegan and cruelty-free?

We do not conduct or commission animal testing on our finished products. Ingredient-level animal testing status varies by supplier. We are working towards full supply-chain verification. Specific vegan claims are indicated per product where verified.

Why does my product contain a preservative?

Any water-containing formula requires effective preservation to prevent microbial growth, which can cause serious harm. EU Cosmetics Regulation requires that all such products pass a Preservative Efficacy Test (PET/Challenge Test). We select preservatives from the permitted EU list at the lowest effective concentration.

What does "fragrance-free" mean on a Lunor product?

A product marked fragrance-free contains no added fragrance compounds. Some products may have a mild, natural scent derived from an ingredient (such as a plant extract or carrier oil) — this is not a separate added fragrance.

Where can I find the full ingredient list for a product?

The full INCI ingredient list is printed on every product and is also listed on each product page on our website. If you have a question about a specific ingredient, contact us at any time.
