It Starts With a Question: What Does This Ingredient Need to Do?
Before any ingredient is considered for a Lunor formula, our first question is functional, not aesthetic: what job does it need to do in this product? An ingredient might be there to cleanse, condition, stabilise a texture, preserve the product, or deliver a specific benefit like hydration. We don't add ingredients purely for a marketing story.
Criteria We Weigh
- Function. Does the ingredient reliably do the job the formula needs?
- Safety data. Is there adequate safety and toxicology data supporting its use at the intended concentration?
- Regulatory status. Is the ingredient permitted for its intended use under EU cosmetics regulation, including any usage limits?
- Sourcing documentation. Can the supplier provide documentation on origin, extraction or processing method, and any relevant certifications?
- Stability. Will the ingredient remain effective and safe across the product's shelf life, including with our chosen packaging and preservation system?
- Fit with our formulation approach. We favour nature-derived ingredients where they can perform the required function reliably; where they can't, we use a synthetic alternative and are upfront about it.
Why This Matters More Than a Single Label
A product can be technically "natural" and still be poorly formulated, unstable, or unsuitable for its purpose. We'd rather ship a product that performs consistently and is honestly labelled than chase a marketing term at the expense of quality or safety.
Questions About a Specific Ingredient?
Every product page lists the full ingredient panel. If you want more detail on why a particular ingredient is in a specific formula, reach out to us directly — we're glad to explain our reasoning.
